"We began with the acre that immediately surrounded their new house. We brought in 250 yards of soil to begin constructing the garden. Then came the behemoth boulders to cradle and hold back the earth. We did beautiful flagstone paths off the terrace and lovely stonework at the front entry and guest house. Along the way I would do pen and ink sketches for the Hales to show the details of what was to come. Irrigation and drainage followed and an outdoor fireplace. We brought in native and woodland plants to mirror the natural landscape."
